In the middle of the 19th century, white Americans of the North and South were unable to reconcile fundamental difference in their approach to government, economics and society. This marks the beginning of another huge chapter in the history of USA. Abraham Lincoln was the first elected president of America. The south got separated to form the Confederate States of America and this was followed by the civil war. After the civil war, America experienced an accelerated rate of industrialization, that mainly followed in the northern states. An unprecedented wave of immigration to the United States served both to provide labor for American industry and to create diverse communities. Abusive industrial practices led to the violent rise of the labor movement in the Unitec States. USA began to raise in international power during this time. With a substantial population and industrial growth domestically and numerous military ventures abroad including the Spanish-American War the history of USA begins to shape.
