Geography of Canada

There are very few nations in the whole globe where natural and geographical diversity is so conspicuous. Canada is such a nation and the geography of Canada has always been a matter of great interest for the scholars. Canada is the world's second largest nation in terms of total area. Canada has an immense expansion from the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. This country shares its border too with the United States to the south and northwest with Alaska, towards the northern direction you will find the frothy boundary of the Arctic sea.



Canada covers a huge expansion of 3,855,103 square miles, among which land is 3,512,000 mi˛ and water is 344,080 mi˛. This nation is located amidst the latitude and longitude of 60°00'N, 95°00'W. Canada has the world's largest coastline, the span of which is almost 125,500 mi. In the physical geography of Canada, many diversities can be cited: The Boreal forest spread throughout the country, icy region is prevailing in the Arctic regions and the Rocky Mountains in the southwest direction. The Great Lakes of Canada are the main sources of the water in the great the St. Lawrence River and the lowlands created by this river is a home to a major part of the of population of Canada. The great lakes of Canada are as follows:

  • Lake Ontario
  • Lake Huron


The mountain range of this country extends from Alabama through the Gaspé Peninsula and up to the Atlantic Provinces. In the Southern Quebec you can find some part of the same mountain range too. The mountain range is known as the Appalachian mountains. More specifically the mountain range is known as the Notre Dame Range and Long Range mountains. The two most famous peaks of this place are :
  • Mount Jacques-Cartier
  • Mount Carleton
Due to such natural diversity this place can said to be the home to lush vegetation and many rare flora and fauna. In this country much temperature hike has not been observed and the general climate of this place is like the climate of the arctic region.
